Founding
This
project was initiated by James Koval in Fall of 2008
It was begun because James had a request from a tech expert (hence-forth
called Fred) of the malware-fighting
community-service group at
GeeksToGo.com.
GeeksToGo
is a forum where users post computer issues and the tech experts solve
them. The
core of Fred's daily activity consists of looking
at logs of potentially harmful files. These logs contain mostly
legitimate files with only a few infected items. Thus, it is vastly
more efficient and easier on the eyes to have a
tool that strips away legitimate files using a whitelist.
